BANG! Music Preview

With over four months until WMC, Miami is hungry for something unique – or at least I am. Yes, BANG! (Saturday, November 11 at the Bicentennial Park) will feature the typical DJs on its listing that everyone has heard of: Tiesto, Roger Sanchez, Christopher Lawrence, etc – but that’s not why I’m excited for BANG!.

What am I excited for? Someone who put together this lineup brought in some really spectacular artists (along with the usual), and I want to highlight a few that make the trip to BANG! worthwhile.

Let’s get the obvious out of the way: Daft Punk will be performing live – and if you’ve been a fan of electronic music for any period of time, there is a special place in your heart for these guys. Their live sets have been described as “religious." While I have several of their records and CDs, I’ve yet to see them live – but I’m looking forward to it. The bigger news? we're now getting word that this will be the last Daft Punk performance.

I’m a huge fan of 80’s music, so Duran Duran should be interesting to say the least. While not all of their songs are necessarily the 80’s sound, hopefully they'll go into some of their older stuff. It will be cool to hear what these guys do with the diverse crowd BANG! is sure to bring. Also, this is a very different artist than we’re used to at a Miami music festival, and that's compelling in itself.

Thievery Corporation is legendary, they blur so many different genres – all with a beautiful, urban, thick and dubby sound that is truly something all its own. The duo from D.C. is not to be missed – and really how often will these guys be in Miami?

Modest Mouse--great act to add some diversity to the typical electronic acts. You’ve most likely heard their jams, but if not, nab a copy of their album, "The Moon & Antarctica". That’s a great introduction to their sound, and will instantly make you see what the fuss is about.

Among the noteworthy DJs playing BANG! include: Misstress Barbara (the eclectic-tech/electro legend), Markus Schulz (a Miami favorite for sure) and Austin Leeds (probably every single progressive DJ has at least one of his records in their collections) to name but a few of the many artists playing.

I’m just picking out my notables, but that’s the fun of going to a festival – seeing the artists that really resonate with you (and maybe being opened to some new ones). For instance, haven't even mentioned Gnarls Barkley.

It should be a well-produced event with a great vibe and I expect up-for-it crowd. My camera-happy friend will be attending with me, so we’ll be sure to bring you some great pics and a good story.
